Tim Knowles’ Tree Drawing series sees oak, spruce, pine and willow trees, supported by the artist, create their own works of durational art. Knowles gives the plants agency, allowing the interaction between branches and breeze to form unique documentations of existence. Taking advantage of the tree’s distinctive shape, Weeping Willow gives the tree a circular canvas on which to display its full range of motion. The tree’s role in the work plays with the intersection between visual and performance art, created through complex multispecies relationships. The works give physical form to a more-than-human way of interacting with the world, one of thoughtful action and the embracing of one’s personal experience of life, from which we have much to learn.
